Coach
What is a Coach?
A coach is a seasoned parent, those that have raised children of their own.
Who can be a Coach?
A coach can be anyone on the other side of the parenting journey. If you have raised biological or foster/adoptive children (both is a bonus), you can be a coach. There are no licenses you must receive or hours of training you must obtain/retain.
When is a Coach needed (how long, how frequent)?
The idea is that a coach would be paired with a foster/adoptive family for the duration of the foster/adoptive placement, or until the parent(s) feel that they no longer need a coach to walk with them. The frequency of this position is really up to the foster/adoptive parents and the arrangement they make with you personally.
Why should you be a Coach?
If you have raised children, you have the wisdom, experience, and knowledge that they need. You can be a sounding board, can give fresh ideas, help them see different perspectives, etc.
Why are Coaches needed?
Foster/adoptive parents NEED you! Foster parents tend to feel isolated, like no one has gone through what they have and need not only a listening ear, but someone to tell them they aren’t alone, to walk through this with them, to cheer them on, pick them up when they are down, be their sanctuary when life is overwhelmingly heavy.
How do you become a Coach?
Just express a desire and one of our Open Homes team members will guide you through the process and connect you with a foster family that needs you.
